England beat South Africa... again

Rain: we get a lot of it in England. They also seem to get a lot in South Africa too with two out of five ODIs being washed out. That gives England a 2-1 victory over South Africa in South Africa something that has not been done by any side for 15 home series! More remarkable than England beating South Africa is how poor South Africa looked. Their bowling looked ineffective and the batting flaky. I thought England would get out muscled in the test series but now I am not so sure. If the wickets are flat we could be in for some big scores and sore bowlers.

South Africa's 50 over side reminded me of what England have been like over the last few years.

They looked like a team that didn't know whether it was coming or going. No balance between batsman and bowlers and relying on one or two men to carry the team.

I can't believe that it is all down to the balance of the side been disrupted by the absence of Jacques Kallis.

They look like a team that have gone backwards since winning the test series in Australia last year and if England get their game right I think the test series could be a lot closer than I originally thought it would be (I thought England would lose 2-1 or 3-1).

Two rain-outs helped England. But should be a pretty good Test series.

Helped England? Or helped South Africa from a bigger beating -- they did lose. England's victories were not close affairs and they did not need any luck.

South Africa remind me a bit of the way England went after winning the 2005 Ashes. It was as if they had 'won' and could now relax (and get beaten).
